To etsy or not to etsy?

Inform me if you please about etsy.com. I am planning on opening shop online and trying to find the best place to do so. I see a lot of people using etsy and went on there and read all the terms and such last night but would still like some insider info. If any of you out there use etsy please share your experience with me before I begin this walk. This is a big step for me because it may be my new income, long story will give you all details on that later. My plan is to get this going this week so info is needed ASAP......
Thanks gals for all your support.

Well, I've been on ETSY for about three months now and I have yet to make a sale. Not sure why-whether it's my fault or the fact that ETSY is so big. Hard to get people to come to your shop with millions of things for sale. Not giving up, but be warned. There's also a site called Artfire (or Artsfire, not sure) Anyway I might give that one a go, too.

I was going to do it too. I have many people come to class with things they buy off etsy. My thought was I can do that too. I ask a lot of my students about the site. Not many have sold things on there. I have one student who has more luck with ebay. I wanted to sell patterns and ready to sew projects. When I went to the pattern section at etsy there was over 2000 listings. Unless you spend each day re posting your items (which can take some time each day) you end up down the list with no one looking at you.
So the question is how do you want to sell your things and how do you get people to look at them.
You could set up a store at etsy or do a website using paypal as payment (I'm sure your kids could help you do this). The key is getting people to see your stuff - driving them to your website or etsy store. There are many free sites you can advertise, craigslist being one.
Just remember do something everyday for your business. It doesn't happen overnight but keep working at it and before you know it you have reached your goals.
